Bowie State Basketball to host Virginia State for Wednesday doubleheader

BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men’s basketball team continues Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play against Virginia State on Wednesday, Jan. 31 inside A.C. Jordan Arena. This will be the nightcap game of a CIAA doubleheader featuring the women’s game beginning at 5:30 p.m. 
 

The doubleheader will be streamed live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

The Series 

• This will be the 30th meeting between Bowie State and Virginia State since 2009. 

• Bowie State is 2-8 against VSU in the last 10 games. 

• The Bulldogs have lost the last five outings against the Trojans entering Wednesday’s tilt. 


About Bowie State 
The Bulldogs (7-13, 2-8 CIAA, 1-2 North) are coming off their first Northern Division win against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State, 84-72 last weekend. In the victory, the Bulldogs had four players score in double digits as Joel Webb led the team with 18 points. Amare Wimbush also led the team in rebounds with ten alongside his 17 points to complete his double-double – his first of the season. The Bulldogs are looking to notch their second win in the division with a win against the Trojans. 


Caleb Johnson leads the Bulldogs in scoring (11.6) and assists (4.7) while Webb leads the team in field goal percentage (59.0) and rebounds (5.9). 


About Virginia State 
The Trojans (9-11, 4-6 CIAA, 1-2 North) are coming off a tough loss at the buzzer to Lincoln (PA), 63-61. Despite the loss, the Trojans managed to outscore the Lions in the second half 36-31 with three players scoring in double digits. Dajour Rucker led the team in scoring with 13 points and Tyreek Williams led the team in rebounds with ten. The Trojans are fourth in the conference defensively, holding their opponents to 69.1 points per game.

Bowie State will head back on the road when the Bulldogs travel to Bluefield, WV on Saturday, Feb. 3rd to take on Bluefield State. Game time is set for 4 p.m. from the Ned E. Shott Gym.
