This story is another example of though sneakers may just be made of leather and rubber, they can be so much more to people.
Clear Lake Intermediate (Houston, TX) sixth grader Joel Rodriguez had never owned high priced kicks and was picked on at school.
“People were making fun of me,” Joel said.
Eighth grader Amien Emamalikhani, who is also a student at Clear Lake saw what was happening to Rodriguez and ,although the two had never previously spoken, decided to do something about it.
“I just wanted to step up for him so I went up to him and showed him a picture of the shoes that I had,” Amien explained. “I asked him, ‘do you like these shoes?’ I told him, ‘I got you tomorrow.'”
The next day, Amien brought Joel a pair of “72-10” Air Jordan XI’s, which he’d only worn once or twice.
“I thought he was lying but he actually brought them for real,”Joel said.
“I even told him to remember this day for the rest of your life,” Amien said. “No matter how many bad people there are, there are always people that will help you in the long run.”
