Byron McNair named starter for Saturday’s matchup versus Tennessee Tech

Tennessee State faces in state and still for the time being, conference for Tennessee Tech this Saturday to open Big South-OVC league play.

When the TSU offense takes the field for the first time it will be led by Byron McNair. Tennessee State head coach Reggie Barlow confirmed on Tuesday’s Big South-OVC media call that McNair would be QB1 on Saturday. “We had the quarterback situation where we were playing two guys and now we’ve settled on Byron” Coach Barlow added in regards to McNair, “Right now, he’s the guy for us.”

Redshirt freshman and Gardner-Webb transfer Jonathan Palmer started the Tigers’ first two games against North Carolina A&T and North Dakota State, with other signal callers Caleb McCreary and McNair making brief appearances. In those starts Palmer threw for 161 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception , completing 16 of his 34 pass attempts. McNair got the start against Alabama A&M, completing 17 of 27 passes for 157 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception in the Tigers’ 23-21 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs.
