title image via Tennessee State Athletics Spurred on by 37 points from their bench, the Tigers of Tennessee State handily defeated Eastern Illinois 84-65 Saturday evening at the Gentry Center.  Eastern Illinois built an early 12-9 lead on Kooper Jacobi’s three-pointer at the 14:06 mark. title image via Coppin State Athletics Coppin State forward Laila Lawrence was named to the Becky Hammin Award Midseason Watch List earlier this week.  The senior out of Lewisville, TX is averaging 16.8 points, which is second in the MEAC, as well as a conference-best 9.3 rebounds, while also adding 2.8 assists, and 2.7 steals in 20 games this season. Tennessee State band director placed on leave as University launches investigation

Dr. Reginald McDonald (via Tennessee State University ) As reported by The Tennesseean, the director of Tennessee State’s Aristocrat of Bands, Dr. Reginald McDonald was placed on paid administrative leave after an internal audit revealed a “lack of compliance with TSU policies and procedures”, said Tennessee State interim president Dwayne Tucker in a news release on Thursday.  “This decision concerns outstanding travel requisitions and advances and related lack of compliance with TSU policies and procedures,” Tucker said in the release. “Dr. McDonald will be on administrative leave with full pay…

Diamond Johnson continues to get recognition as her on-court exploits this season have earned the Norfolk State graduate guard a spot 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of Year Midseason Watchlist.   The Watchlist comprises players from 15 teams and 10 conferences. Norfolk State graduate guard Diamond Johnson was named the BOXTOROW National HBCU Player of the Week.  Johnson helped lead the Lady Spartans to a 94-54 win over Delaware State in which she put in 28 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. In NSU’s 82-66 defeat of Coppin State, Johnson scored 15 points to go along with 3 rebounds and a pair of assists.
