NBA Trade Alert: Clippers, Heat, and Jazz Involved in Multi-Team Swap

According to Shams Charania, the Utah Jazz, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a trade. Here is the breakdown:

Miami gets:

  • Norman Powell

Los Angeles Receives:

  • John Collins

Utah receives:

  • Kevin Love
  • Kyle Anderson
  • 2027 second round pick (Clippers)

Norman Powell is coming off his best NBA season in which he averaged a career best 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals on .484/.418/.804 splits, in 60 appearances ( all starts) and should have garnered his first All-Star nod. The previous two seasons, Powell displayed his ability to provide consistent and efficient scoring off the bench , averaging 17.0 and 13.9 points per game , respectively. Powell will be able to make up for the offense that will go missing in the Heat offense when Andrew Wiggins experiences one of his periodic disappearing acts.

Collins, though he has 8 years of NBA service, is still just 27 years old, brings elite athleticism and can provide an ability to stretch the floor, as he shot .399. from downtown, albeit on lower volume ( 3.7 attempts per game). Collins averaged 19.0 points and 8.2 rebounds for the woeful Utah Jaz this past season.

In Kyle Anderson, the Jazz receive a high IQ, steady veteran presence that even at 6-9 can initiate offence. He can effectively run the pick and roll and can fit well into a starter or reserve role.

Kevin Love is 36 and is coming off the least productive season of his NBA career. Appearing in 23 contests, 9 starts, Love averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in just 10.9 minutes per contest on .357/.358/.696 shooting splits. At this point of his career, he is relegated to just a shooter.
