Edgerrin James is asking people to rally around his son, former Cincinnati basketball standout Jizzle James, during a difficult period.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer shared a deeply personal message regarding his 21-year-old son, revealing that Jizzle is currently dealing with substance abuse and is not in a healthy state of mind.
James’ message was less about basketball and more about making sure his son receives the right kind of support.
Edgerrin James: “We’re Fighting for Him”
In his statement, Edgerrin James asked anyone who encounters Jizzle to show him love and encouragement while specifically warning people against giving him money, valuables or other material items.
The message emphasized that providing material assistance could ultimately make the situation worse.
James also asked people to be patient with his son as the family works to help him through the situation.
The Hall of Famer closed his message with a hopeful sentiment: “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.”
Jizzle James’ Basketball Journey
Jizzle James, whose full name is Edgerrin James Jr., emerged as a highly regarded basketball prospect before choosing Cincinnati.
During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 12.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention recognition.
His college career has included some significant challenges away from the court.
Cincinnati announced in August 2025 that James had been removed from the program after what then-head coach Wes Miller described as a personal matter. James eventually returned to the Bearcats and played during the 2025-26 season before entering the transfer portal.
He later announced plans to follow Miller to Charlotte.
A Father’s Public Plea
For Edgerrin James, however, the latest situation isn’t about basketball statistics, recruiting rankings or a player’s next destination.
It’s about his son.
The former NFL star’s decision to publicly ask people to offer Jizzle love rather than material assistance underscores the seriousness of the situation while also making clear that his family is trying to support him.
The message is ultimately one of compassion.
Whatever happens next in Jizzle James’ basketball career, his father’s priority right now appears to be making sure his son knows that his family is standing beside him.
“We’re fighting for him, not against him.”
