FRANKFORT, Ky. – Junior Erica Jones scored a season-high 22 points on Saturday to lead Kentucky State to a 68-56 win over Tuskegee University. This was the second time in less than a week Kentucky State matched up against Tuskegee, as the ‘Breds used a 32-point second half to hold off the Golden Tigers; splitting the season series.
Along with Jones (South Haven, Miss.), Kentucky State (6-14, 3-10 SIAC) had three others in double figures. Senior Carnethia Brown (Louisville, Ky.) finished with 13 points and showed her pick pocketing skills, amassing a team-high five steals. Guard Amani Williams (Scotch Plains, N.J.) added 12 points and led the glass cleaning duties with a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Taylore Gotcher (Garland, Texas) was also in the mix, as she accounted for a season-best 11 points while also adding seven rebounds.
KSU held a slight 27-24 lead at Halftime, but a 23-12 run throughout the duration of the third quarter enabled Kentucky State to hold off Tuskegee. During the run, Kentucky State shot 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from downtown – holding Tuskegee to just 14 percent from the field and allowing zero shots from behind the arc.
Next, Kentucky State looks to keep the momentum going when it hosts Spring Hill College 5:30 p.m. Monday at the William Exum Center.
