When asked if he has named a starting quarterback, in his Week 0 press conference, FAMU coach James Colzie said, “It looks like we have. We will meet with both guys today and then going forward we will have our guy who’s number one and we’ll have our guy who’s number two.
That number one guy will be Daniel Richardson, who emerged from the seven quarterbacks on the FAMU roster to assume the starting job.
Richardson is a Florida Atlantic transfer who appeared in 11 games last season for the Owls, completing 208 of his 311 pass attempts for 2001 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His best performance last season came against South Florida on October 14 where the Miami- native completed 31-of-38 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns.
Before his time at FAU, Richardson spent four years at Central Michigan. He played sparingly in 2019 and 2020, appearing in just 7 total contests. However, in his last two seasons, he participated in 25 games, throwing for 2633 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in helping lead the Chippewas to the Sun Bowl, where CMU edged Washington State, 24-21. He followed that up with a 2021 campaign in which Richardson completed 179-of-218 passes for 1,988 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.
Richardson will lead the Rattlers into battle when they take on Norfolk State Saturday evening in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
