| Florida Memorial University’s dream season comes to an end as they fall 68-47 to Freed-Hardeman in the second round of the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament at the Brewer Sports Center.
The Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman went on a furious 14-2 run to open the game, and FMU could never fully recover from the initial blow.
The Lions were led by 2024-25 SUN Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year Kamesha Moore who finished with a team-high 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc to go along with two rebounds and one steal before fouling out of the contest. Teammate and Tennessee native Makayla Transou generated 10 points on a dismal shooting night, going just 2-for-11 from the field to go along with four rebounds and one steal. However, she was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Fellow Lion and former All-American Jada Johnson
added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
As a team, Freed-Hardeman dominated FMU on the block as they scored 38 points in the paint compared to just eight for the Lions.
FMU was outrebounded 35-30 and scored 18 points off of 17 Freed-Hardeman turnovers, not fully capitalizing on their opponent’s mistakes.
For the Lady Lions, Jenna Satterly controlled the game and finished with a game-high 27 points, six boards, one steal and one block. She also shot a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line.
FMU finishes the season 24-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play, including a SUN Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship to go along with the first win in the NAIA Tournament in program history under the direction of first year head coach Kevin Herod, who boasts a career record of 239-100 (71% winning percentage). In addition, he earned conference coach of the year honors in his inaugural season in Miami Gardens.
