Losing ten out your last thirteen games has a way of causing nerves to fray.
According to The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania, the Memphis Grizzlies held an “emotional team meeting” in the locker room following the team’s 101-94 loss to the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night. The meeting, while volatile, turned physical between Garrett Temple and Omari Caspi.
Neither player set the world on fire in the Pistons game, with Temple scoring just seven points and missing six of his eight shots and Caspi just got five minutes of fun and bricking both of his shot attempts.
Grizzlies head coach J.B.Bickerstaff said this of the meeting per David Cobb of the Memphis Commercial Appeal:
“I think addressing larger issues was the conversation that we needed to have. Right now, it’s not X’s and O’s that need to be resolved. I think we resolved some of those issues tonight.”
Cobb added that only Mike Conley and Marc Gasol remained in the locker room by the time reporters were allowed in, which was some 45 minutes after the game ended . The rest of the team headed out following the fracas.
Gasol had this to say of the postgame meeting:
We were openly sharing our thoughts and trying to fix the situation and getting back into being a really good basketball team together and doing the things we need to do consistently to win games,”
The current stretch has caused the Grizzlies to tumble out of the playoff standing, as they now find themselves 2.5 game behind the San Antonio Spurs for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
