Satou Sabally Steps Away From Liberty to Focus on Concussion Recovery

New York Liberty forward Satou Sabally is stepping away from the team as she continues recovering from the concussion she suffered on June 23, head coach Chris DeMarco announced Thursday.

Although Sabally has officially cleared the WNBA’s concussion protocol, she said she is still experiencing lingering effects from the injury. DeMarco emphasized that the organization’s priority is ensuring the veteran forward returns only when she feels fully healthy, especially after sustaining her second significant head injury within the past year.

“Health will always be the focus,” DeMarco said, adding that Sabally will be away from the team “for a little bit” while continuing her recovery under the guidance of the Liberty’s performance staff.

Sabally has not appeared in a game since June 23 after being injured against the Las Vegas Aces. In 13 games this season, the offseason free-agent addition has averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. The Liberty remain hopeful she will return later this season, but no timetable has been provided.
