2023 MEAC PRESEASON HONORS AND PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its 2023 women’s volleyball preseason honors Tuesday afternoon where Howard University sits as a favorite to win this year’s conference title.

The Bison share this year’s honor with the Eagles of Coppin State (CSU), producing 112 points apiece. HU racked up four first-place votes while CSU earned nine first-place votes. The two heavyweights finished the 2022 conference season 12-2 while sharing the MEAC regular season crown.

Additionally, program standout Rya McKinnon (Bessemer, Ala.) was tabbed as MEAC Preseason Player of the Year. The record-breaker led the conference in average points (3.83), along with kills per set (3.37) before being named the 2022 MEAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Joining McKinnon on the 2023 Preseason All-MEAC Team are teammates Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) and Kayla Diaz(Nanuet, N.Y.). Averaging 10.61 assists a set, Diaz earned MEAC Co-Setter of the Year at the conclusion of last year’s season.

All awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Bison set off the 2023 season with the DMV Invitational, hosting a pair of home matches against DMV rivals Georgetown (Aug. 25) and George Washington (Aug. 26).
