The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its men’s basketball weekly accolades where Howard University freshman standout Blake Harper (Washington) racked up a pair of awards. The announcement came Monday morning.
The D.C. native won MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week after leading HU to a perfect 2-0 mark.
In the victories, Harper averaged 27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals. In Monday’s (Feb. 17) win over Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), he tallied 34 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Saturday (Feb. 22), the rookie notched 21 points at rival Morgan State (MSU).
Harper leads the MEAC in scoring, averaging 19.6 points, which ranks 25th in the nation.
Redshirt junior forward Ayodele Taiwo (Lagos, Nigeria) received honorable mention after averaging 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks against UMES and MSU.
Morgan State’s Daniel Akitoby earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
