HATTIESBURG, Miss. | Jackson State fell to Southern Miss 38-20 at M.M. Roberts Stadium on Saturday night in front of 32,011 in attendance. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for Jackson State (1-1) with its last loss coming on September 21, 2024 in non-conference action, a span of 350 days.
Travis Terrell Jr. finished the day with 80 yards rushing on 10 carries, with most of that coming in the first half with 73 yards on eight carries. The sophomore averaged 8.0 yards per carry after leaving the game last week early in the first half. Ahmad Miller finished with 34 yards on nine carries including a touchdown, while Donerio Davenport added 33 yards on eight carries, and Emari Matthews 29 yards on just four carries and a touchdown.
JaCobian Morgan finished 14-of-27 for 131 yards through the air, connecting with five different receivers. Nate Rembert led the way with 64 yards on four receptions and Jameel Gardner Jr. added 26 yards on four receptions. Ja’Naylon Dupree added 18 yards on three receptions.
Defensively, Quincy Ivory led Jackson State with 10 total tackles, one of six players with seven or more tackles on the night. He added a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, B.J. Washingtonadded nine tackles and Shamar Hawkins added eight. Ashton Taylor added a sack, a tackle for loss, a pass break-up, and three hurries in the loss.
Although the streak was snapped, the Tigers streak remains at 11 against FCS opponents.
