Grambling prepares to take on Jackson State

Robinson Memorial Stadium to face a longtime Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival, Jackson State, in a non-conference battle. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Saturday’s game will be the 70th meeting between GSU and JSU. Grambling State currently leads the all-time series 47-23-1. TC Taylor names starter for Jackson State’s Week 1 matchup

Earlier Monday on the SWAC Media Call, Jackson State head coach TC Taylor said Jacobian Morgan would be the Tigers’ starting quarterback for their Week 1 opener against Louisiana-Monroe. Last season the Syracuse transfer appeared in six games for the Tigers, completing 83 of 123 passes for 842 yards, 10 touchdowns, and an interception. McDaniel, a transfer from Alcorn State, totaled 30 tackles for the Braves as a defensive back in 2023 with 21 solo stops. He also recorded a pair of tackles for loss. Jackson State’s Fabian McCray named to HBCU+ FCS Player of the Year Watch List

Courtesy of Jackson State Fabian McCray was one of 20 players named to the inaugural Urban Edge Network HBCU+ FCS National Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch List, released by the organization on Thursday morning. McCray hauled in 41 receptions for 584 yards and four touchdowns including a season-long 47-yard reception. He recorded a season-high eight receptions for 79 yards against Alabama State, and another seven against UAPB. McCray recorded a season-high 109 yards against Alcorn State with a pair of touchdowns. Jackson State QB Jason Brown was named BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Week. The Virginia Tech graduate transfer completed 26-30 passes for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns, with no interceptions, in the Tigers 37-7 steamrolling of South Carolina State in the Cricket MEAC-SWAC Challenge.
