Jeffery De La Concha named Lane College head baseball coach

Lane College Director of Athletics Derrick Burroughs has announced that Jeffery De La Concha has been hired as its new head baseball coach.

De La Concha has 15 years of coaching experience, including at the college, high school, and summer league levels. He served as the full-time assistant coach for Xavier University of Louisiana from 2020-2022, helping the squad to a national runner-up finish in the 2021 Black College World Series. During his tenure, De La Concha helped develop Xavier pitchers to rank nationally in the NAIA.

Prior to that, Coach De La Concha was at Talladega College as an assistant coach in 2010-11 and 2013-15. In 2014, Talladega led the NAIA with a .362 team batting average and earned its first-ever bid to the NAIA national tournament.

De La Concha was an assistant coach for six seasons at St. Petersburg High School in Florida, where he helped win two district championships, and was head coach for seven seasons in the Stan Musial League, a summer college league based in the Tampa area.

Most recently, De La Concha was the full-time pitching coach in the Major League Baseball Draft League with the Williamsport Crosscutters from May until his hire to lead the Lane baseball program.

De La Concha received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Talladega in 2013. In 2017 he earned a master’s in sports and health sciences from American Public University.

As a collegian, the Manhattan, New York native played baseball as a switch-hitting catcher for two seasons at Talladega and two seasons at junior college St. Petersburg College.
