The Boston Celtics continue to stack accolades under head coach Joe Mazzulla, as the 37-year-old sideline leader has officially been named the NBA’s 2025-26 Coach of the Year.

Mazzulla guided Boston to a dominant 56-26 regular season record and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference despite navigating injuries , the most significant being Jayson Tatum who only played in 16 games , and lineup challenges throughout the campaign. The Celtics remained one of the league’s most balanced teams on both ends of the floor, finishing among the NBA leaders in offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency, and overall net rating.

The award further cements Mazzulla’s rapid rise among the NBA’s elite coaches. After taking over under difficult circumstances just a few seasons ago, he has helped transform Boston into a perennial championship contender and already delivered an NBA title to the franchise in 2024.

At just 37 years old, Mazzulla also becomes the youngest NBA Coach of the Year winner since 1975, adding another historic accomplishment to his growing résumé. He is the first Celtics coach to win the award since legendary coach Bill Fitch captured the honor during the 1979-80 season.

Boston’s success this season was built on discipline, defensive intensity, and a modern offensive system that consistently maximized the Celtics’ depth and versatility. Even with teams around the league loading up with superstar talent, Mazzulla kept Boston firmly in the championship conversation from opening night through the playoffs.

For a coach once viewed as an interim solution, Joe Mazzulla has quickly become one of the defining coaching minds of this NBA era.
