According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said today that Kevin Durant will not play in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
This will be the 7th game in a row Durant has missed due to a calf strain that apparently was more sever than initially thought. While it was pretty clear the Warriors could handle the Rockers and the Trail Blazers sans KD, it seems that may not be the case against the Raptors in the NBA Finals. Golden State was defeated 118-109 in Game 1 and it seemed evident they could have used Durant’s scoring to loosen up the tight Toronto defense. The Warriors could also use his prowess on the defensive end, as time after time, they were unable to get stops at crucial moments in the game, and they had no answer for Pascal Siakam who scored 32 in Game 1.
There was no update from Coach Kerr on when the all-world forward would return , however according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, KD is expected to be back “midway” through the championship round.
