Kevin Herod is officially the new head women’s basketball coach at Allen University, bringing a proven track record of success and program building to Columbia.
Herod arrives with an impressive résumé that includes a 245–105 career record, multiple conference championships, and consistent postseason success across several stops in the HBCU ranks. Known for his ability to quickly elevate programs, Allen is betting on that same formula to take the next step within the SIAC.
Most recently, Herod made an immediate impact at Florida Memorial University, where he led the program to a 24–5 record, a conference championship, and a national tournament appearance in his first season at the helm. His ability to implement a winning culture right away has become a defining trait of his coaching career.
Prior to that, Herod built a powerhouse at Talladega College, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach while consistently competing for championships. He also enjoyed success at Langston University, further cementing his reputation as one of the more accomplished coaches in the HBCU landscape.
Herod now takes over an Allen program that has shown steady progress in recent seasons and looks poised to rise even further. With his track record, expectations will be immediate—and high.
What this means:
This isn’t just a hire—it’s a statement. Allen is positioning itself to move from competitive to conference contender, and possibly more, under Herod’s leadership.
