South Carolina – The Lane College football team secured its first victory of the 2024 season on Saturday with a conference victory over the Benedict College Tigers.

Senior receiver and return man Anthony Evelyn exploded for 276 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to lead the way for the Dragons.

The Atlantic Beach, Fla. native scored on an 82-yard punt return early in the second quarter with Lane trailing 7-6. The visitors would surrender two more touchdowns before Evelyn caught a pass from Jerick Gaston from 25 yards out to close out the first half and bring the Dragons to within two points at halftime.

A pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half would cap off long drives for Vyron Brown‘s squad. Kylan Duhe scored on a 26-yard run to put Lane up 25-21 and Ike Brown would ice the game with his second score of the day at the 3:38 mark in the fourth quarter.

Gaston was efficient all day for Lane, finishing 15-for-20 with 202 yards and one touchdown.

Brown led the way on the ground with 156 yards rushing and two touchdowns while Duhe added 93 yards and one score.

Tyshun Gaiter and Devon Irving both recorded six tackles in the win. Walter Tatum led the way with three pass breakups.

Lane will again be on the road next Saturday, September 21st, when they visit Miles College in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
