MEAC Basketball Players of the Week

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 21, 2020 Senior forward Jibri Blount of North Carolina Central University and sophomore center Brendan Medley-Bacon of Coppin State University have been selected as this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week, it was announced today.  Medley-Bacon also reaps the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award and freshman guard/forward Tyrese Jenkins of Norfolk State University captures the Rookie of the Week award.

Jibri Blount (F, 6-7, r-Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Eagles defeated Bethune-Cookman on Saturday before falling to Florida A&M on Monday.  He had a 29-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win over the Wildcats. For the week, he shot 60.0 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Brendan Medley-Bacon (C, 7-1, So., Baltimore, Md.) led the Eagles to a victory over North Carolina A&T State on Saturday. Shooting 63.6 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the line, Medley-Bacon scored 19 points while snatching 14 rebounds. He also had four blocked shots and a pair of steals.

Tyrese Jenkins (G/F, 6-6, Fr., Richmond, Va.) scored 19 points and grabbed three rebounds as the Spartans defeated Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday. He shot 62.5 percent the floor, 75.0 percent from 3-point range and 100 percent from the line. He added two assists and one steal in the victory.

Other Top Performers
Nasir Core (FAMU) posted averages of 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a loss to South Carolina State and a win over North Carolina Central. He had 17 points with four rebounds against the Eagles and 15 points, four assists and three rebounds against the Bulldogs.

Kyle Foster (HOW) averaged 17.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in losses to Morgan State and Yale. He had 19 points on Monday in the Yale game and 15 points on Saturday against the Bears.
