MEAC Volleyball Weekly Honorees

From the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference:

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 1, 2021Coppin State junior Paola Caten and North Carolina Central senior Arlanda Faulkner were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.Howard’s Cimone Woodard was named Rookie of the Week and North Carolina Central sophomore Lauren Janok was named Setter of the Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore’s Charlize Williams earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Caten (5-11, Jr., OH, Tampa, Fla.)averaged 4.4 kills and 2.8 digs per set this past weekend, hitting a combined .303 across eight sets played. She had 18 kills, eight digs and four block assists in a win over Norfolk State, and against Howard, she added 17 kills, 14 digs and two block assists for her sixth double-double of the season, hitting .375 for the match.
 
Faulkner (5-9, Sr., OH/RS, Goldsboro, N.C.) racked up 18 kills each in wins over Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore this past weekend, hitting a combined .298 over the course of nine sets played. Against the Hornets, she hit .375 and added six digs, a service ace and a block assist. On Sunday against the Hawks, Faulkner had five digs, two block assists and a service ace.
 
Woodard (6-3, Fr., MB, Missouri City, Texas) hit .400 over the course of three matches – all wins – this past week. It started with a Tuesday win over Delaware State, where Woodard had eight kills and hit .538, while also notching a pair of blocks. She also had eight kills against Coppin State, hitting .400 after going error-free in 20 swings against the Eagles. In 10 sets played, Woodard committed just two errors.
 
Janok (5-11, So., S, Rougemont, N.C.)averaged 8.7 assists and 2.2 digs per set in a pair of wins for the Eagles this past weekend. She opened the weekend on Friday with 45 assists and five digs against Delaware State, adding five kills and two service aces, before going for 33 assists, 15 digs, six kills, four blocks and two aces against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Williams (5-11, Fr., MB, Mesquite, Texas) averaged 1.6 blocks per set this past weekend, going for six total blocks on Friday against South Carolina State before adding five more on Sunday against North Carolina Central. Of her five blocks on Sunday, three were solo efforts.
 
Other Top Performers
Ashley Roman (Coppin State) had 25 digs each against Norfolk State and Howard.
 
Andrea Tsvetanova (Coppin State)recorded a double-double against Norfolk State with 39 assists and 12 digs.
 
Malgorzata Andersohn (Delaware State) had 39 assists and 11 digs against North Carolina Central.
 
Kelsie Dawson (Delaware State) had six kills each against North Carolina Central and South Carolina State, hitting .625 against the Bulldogs.
 
Kristi Gomez (Delaware State)racked up 20 kills and 12 digs against North Carolina Central, while also recording 11 kills against South Carolina State.
 
Valeria Otero (Delaware State)racked up 17 digs against North Carolina Central.
 
Kayla Diaz (Howard) had 22 assists and 12 digs against Coppin State.
 
Tamar Wells (Howard) had five blocks each in wins over Delaware State and Morgan State.
 
Jalynn Robinson (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 31 assists, nine digs and four blocks against North Carolina Central.
 
Madison Grace (Morgan State) had 12 kills on .379 hitting and five digs against Norfolk State.
 
Jadore Hayes (Morgan State) had seven digs each against Norfolk State and Howard.
 
Gabriela Hiciano (Morgan State) had 14 kills and nine digs against Norfolk State, hitting .407.
 
Mackenzie Jefferson (Morgan State)racked up 36 assists and 10 digs against Norfolk State.
