Though it seemed highly unlikely six months or even six days ago, Russell Westbrook’s time with the Oklahoma City Thunder could be winding down.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that the All-NBA performer “welcomes the idea” of a possible trade this offseason” and that he and the Thunder would like this resolved sooner rather than later.
The Miami Heat have shown some preliminary interest.
Tim Reynolds of Associated Press reported the two teams have had discussions. However the finances could be a roadblock to bringing Brodie to South Beach.
However they are not the only interested party- the Houston Rockets may also be interested in acquiring Westbrook’s services, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
With the trading of Paul George and likely Westbrook, it seems the Thunder are likely on the initial steps, albeit unplanned as it was, of a total rebuild. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, and the boatload it picks they got in the Paul George trade and other deals, the Thunder is in a good place to begin anew.
