Nick Kay signs with Spanish club Real Betis

From the nbl.com.au:

Two-time NBL champion Nick Kay has signed with Real Betis in Spain for the coming season.

Kay opted out of his contract in May of 2020 to assess his opportunities outside of the NBL.

The Spanish club made the signing official, revealing Kay as their latest recruit on social media.

Kay started his NBL career with the Townsville Crocodiles in 2015/16, claiming Rookie of the Year honours before moving to the Hawks where he spent two seasons.

He joined the Wildcats in 2018, winning a championship in his first season before claiming a second in NBL20 and being named in the All-NBL First Team in both campaigns.

Frequently suiting up for the Australian Boomers in recent times, Kay was a member of the team that went beat USA Basketball in Melbourne before suiting up in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Perth Wildcats CEO Troy Georgiu said on Wildcats.com.au that he was pleased for Kay.

“It’s rewarding to see someone who’s been an integral part of our program be afforded an opportunity to achieve a personal goal. I’m looking forward to watching Nick continue to grow in Europe and am excited to hopefully see him in the green and gold at the Tokyo Games,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Nick for everything he’s done in his two seasons here at the Wildcats. You see what he does on the court, but off of it he embodies our club’s values with his professionalism, hard work and humility.

“We wish him the very best in Spain. He’ll always be a part of the Wildcats family.”

The Wildcats have stated their intentions of going after an import power forward to fill the hole left by Kay.
