Unfortunate news out of Las Vegas summer league- New Orleans Pelicans rookie EJ Liddell has suffered a torn ACL.
Liddell went down in the third quarter in their Monday game against the Atlanta Hawks. He was clutching his right knee and had to be helped off the court.
The initial report, and undoubtedly the hope, from the team was that was a sprained knee; however subsequent examination revealed a much more severe diagnosis , as the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Ohio State product averaged 19.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 blocks in 32 games while shooting 49.0 percent from the floor and 37.4 % from downtown. Liddell was a player whose selection at 41 belied his ability and potential.
In his abbreviated summer league run, he averaged 4.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
