Glen Carbon, Illinois is the stage for this edition of Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers, where a Florida man’s sticky fingers has him staring at a burglary charge.
An off-duty manager at a local Ross Dress For Less was in the store shopping when she spotted a man, who was later identified as Carlos y. Albelo-Parnau,32, of Miami, stuffing a pair of shoes into a backpack and then exit the store without paying for them.
According to a court document, a witness saw Albelo-Parnau get into a car and leave the premises. Police pulled the vehicle in question over and saw the alleged thief in the driver’s seat.
There were several items suspected to be stolen in plain view; the items had tags from Ross on them. Altogether, police found 60 pairs of shoes and approximately $4,000 worth of clothing in the vehicle. Additionally, a sensor remover, a device used by retail stores to remove the anti-theft tags as well as a homemade contraption of the same purpose was also found in the vehicle.
Albelo-Parnau was arrested and taken into custody on a burglary charge. The bail was set at $75,000.
