Police in KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal South African province, said they apprehended a man who was transporting thousands of dollars worth of counterfeit sneakers.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbeke said an intelligence operation was conducted June 9 that observed a suspicious bakkie (truck) travelling on the R69 Vryheid/Hlobane Road near the Shona Settlement. Police intercepted the vehicle and in the course of the search, found several bales of counterfeit sneakers , worth 700,000 South African Rand ( $50,963.45 USD) in the rear of the truck.
Colonel Mbele said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested and the various brands of counterfeit sneakers were seized by police.
