Courtesy of the CIAA Claflin (17–8, 12–5 CIAA) put together one of its most complete defensive performances of the season on Thursday afternoon, shutting down Virginia State (17–8, 11–5 CIAA) in a decisive 56–42 victory in the CIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at CFG Bank Arena. Bowie State basketball schedule change (again)

The Thursday basketball doubleheader between Bowie and Bluefield State has been postponed due to weather and safety concerns posed by Winter Storm Fern.  This was the second postponement of the doubleheader, as the January 28 date was a rescheduled version of the original.  A rescheduled date has not been determined and will be announced at a later date.

Fayetteville State v Winston-Salem State matchup rescheduled 

The much-anticipated contest between Fayetteville State and Winston Salem State, which was initially scheduled take place this weekend has been rescheduled due to the impending inclement weather that could be bearing down on the region.  The meeting is now slated to take place on Tuesday, January 27, with the women’s game tipping off at 6:00 p.m. EST, followed by the men’s contest at 8:00 pm.  Advance-purchased tickets will be honored.

The Trojans (4-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Jacob Cooper, who had 18 points, six assists and two steals. William Hopkins tacked on 12 points and Amare Wimbush chipped in as well with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals off of the bench.
