Rockets defeat Warriors 95-92 to tie West Finals at 2

For the Golden State Warriors game 4 of the Western Conference Finals will be one of missed opportunities. Untimely turnovers, shaky offense, and lack of attention to detail would prove to be their undoing. The Warriors began the game by taking a 12-0 lead. Golden State would control the opening period, with Houston able to draw no closer than 9, which is where the deficit would be when the quarter drew to a close. James Harden would get it going in the second quarter, scoring 15 points , including a…

Cavaliers ties East Finals at 2-2

The Cleveland Cavaliers knew they had to return to Boston to continue the Eastern Conference Finals. The only question is upon their arrival, would they be down 3-1 or tied at 2 games apiece? Although Boston came out with more energy than they did in game 3, the Cavaliers matched them, particularly on the defensive end, holding the Celtics to a mere 18 points, while putting up 34 of their own. Boston would actually fall behind by 19 early in the second quarter. The Celtics would begin to chip away…

Warriors serve Rockets 41-point beatdown in game 3

It certainly seems the talk of Stephen Curry’s basketball demise was greatly exaggerated. He had seemingly been out of rhythm over the past few games, and at least offensively, had not resembled the Stephen Curry we have grown accustomed to being amazed by. Curry had 35 points as his Golden State Warriors laid the smack down on the Houston Rockets 126-85 in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. After a close opening quarter, the Warriors distanced themselves and took the first step in seizing control of the game with…

NBA Conference Finals Part 2: The West – Hero Ball v Team Basketball

In our piece on the Eastern Conference, the point was raised at the vastly differing playing styles of the two combatants ( the Lebron-centric offense vs the ball and player movement of the Celtics). The clash to come out of the West also features teams that approach the game from totally different perspectives. The Houston Rockets were the best isolation team in the NBA this season. Their best player, James Harden, averages a league-high 1.20 PPP and Chris Paul is number 2 at 1.11 PPP. As a team, the Rockets…

Warriors steal homecourt with 119-106 win in Game 1 of West Finals

After 82 games of the regular season and two rounds of the playoffs, the playoff series that has been anticipated nearly all season is finally upon us, the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals. As could be expected, the Rockets came out energetically, leading as much as by nine points in the first quarter. Golden State would rally back, closing the deficit to one at 30-29 at the close of the period. The Warriors would draw even at 33 with 10:32 left in the…

Kevin Durant plans to opt out contract and restructure deal with Golden State

According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Kevin Durant will opt out his current deal with the Golden State Warriors and enter unrestricted free agency. However it seems unlikely this is to be courted by other teams, as this is to allow him to restructure a new deal with the Warriors. The two-year,$51 million contract Durant signed last offseason allowed Golden State to hang on to Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala. “His gesture of taking less gave us the ability to be very aggressive in pursuing Shaun and Andre,” Warriors general manager…

KD to the Warriors… Wow

There has been a seismic shift in the NBA landscape.  In a shocking move (well, sort of) Kevin Durant has agreed to join the Golden State Warriors. The star penned an article on the Player’s Tribune in which he revealed his intentions, an excerpt from which reads as the following: The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player — as that has always steered me in the right direction. But I am also at…

Warriors’ Green suspended for Game 5

When the NBA Finals reconvenes Monday, Draymond Green and I will have the same vantage point for taking in the action- in front of the television. That is because the Warriors’ power forward was suspended after being hit with a flagrant-1 for his actions in Game 4. This gave him his 4th flagrant foul point of the post season, which brings an automatic one game suspension.  Late in game 4, Green and Lebron James got tangled up and Green fell down. James stepped over him and it appears Green swung…
