Tennessee State beats SEMO 79-71 in key OVC matchup

The Tennessee State men’s basketball team got a key conference victory Thursday night against SEMO. Although the Tigers only shot 39% (20-51) from the floor and 27% (3-11) they were able to get to the free throw line 42 times, where they connected on 36 of those attempts.  Despite a host of turnovers early, Tennessee State was able to take an early lead and showed the way until Luke Almodovar’s three-pointer put SEMO up 15-13 with 11:23 remaining in the opening half. The Redhawks defense causes problems for TSU all evening, holding the Lady Tigers to just 35% (18-52) and 25% (4-16) from downtown. Aaron Nkrumah named OVC Player of the Week

Tennessee State guard Aaron Nkrumah was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week. The senior averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in helping the Tigers to a pair of victories that have lifted TSU into a three-way tie for first place in the conference.  In Tennessee State’s 89-80 win over Lindenwood on February 19, Nkrumah scored 14 points, to go along with. 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. The Tennessee State Lady Tigers gave the number two team in the Ohio Valley Conference all they wanted but unfortunately for the Tigers, their upset bid came up short as the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Tigers 75 to 70.  Taking advantage of Lindenwood’s sluggish start Tennessee State was able to jump out to a 9 to 4 lead at the five-minute 27-second mark of the opening quarter.
