Tennessee State falls short 31-27 at Vanderbilt

The Tennessee State Tigers traded blows with SEC opponent Vanderbilt for four quarters but ultimately came up short losing 31-27. The Vanderbilt offense came out shaky turning the ball over twice in the first quarter via two interceptions from VU quarterback Kyle Shurmur. TSU was unable to take advantage of the first turnover, as Antonio Zita missed a 46-yard field goal attempt. Tennessee State game at Hampton cancelled due to Hurricane Florence

The Tennessee State/Hampton game that was scheduled for September 15 can now be added to the list of sporting events that are postponed or outright canceled because of Hurricane Florence bearing down on the East Coast. This is the second consecutive week the Tigers have had a game canceled due to inclement weather; the Southern Heritage Classic against Jackson State last week was canceled due to lightning. Like that contest, this game will not be rescheduled.

Dana Ford takes Missouri State Head Coaching Job

Sources have told ESPN that Missouri State is expected to hire Tennessee State’s Dana Ford as its head coach. He replaces Paul Lusk whose ballclubs never finished higher than third in the Missouri Valley Conference. Coach Ford has been at TSU’s helm for four season. Though he has an overall record of 57-65, he has gone 52-39 since a 5-26 record in his first year. He has lead the Tigers to records of .500 or better in the last three seasons. It was a dominating performance for Tennessee State, as the Tigers handed Virginia University of Lynchburg a 60-0 beatdown. The Tiger offense got going early, scoring on a 5-play drive that covered 58 yards and took only 2:18.
