Wednesday Tennessee State announced a 4-year football series with Alabama A&M.
“We’re excited to launch the ‘Legacy Series,’ a celebration of the rich history and excellence of Tennessee State University and Alabama A&M,” said TSU Director of Athletics Dr. Mikki Allen. “This series honors the cultural and athletic legacies that continue to inspire our HBCU community.”
Beginning in 2025 the “Legacy Series” kicks off with a September 13 matchup between the Bulldogs and Tigers in Nashville The teams will alternate hosting subsequent games, with the 2026 meeting tentatively scheduled to take place September 12, 2026, at Louis Crews Stadium on Huntsville, AL. The series swings back to Nashville on September 11, 2027, and wraps up in Huntsville on September 16, 2028.
Alabama A&M ended the season 6-6 but parted ways with the SWAC’s longest-tenured coach Connell Maynor, who compiled a 40-32 overall record in his seven seasons on The Hill and 28-21 in the SWAC winning the SWAC championship in the 2021 condensed spring season.
The 2024 season was Tennessee State’s most successful in a quarter-century, as they claimed a portion of the OVC crown for the first time since 1999. The Tigers finished with a 9-4 record, their most wins since 2013, and also earned a birth to the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2013.
Tennessee State holds a 21-8 series advantage since the teams first began meeting in 1930. TSU and AAMU last squared off in 2010, a matchup won by Tennessee State 27-14.
