Tennessee State named Stats Perform HBCU FCS National Team of the Week

Tennessee State was named the Stats Perform HBCU FCS National Team of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. Tennessee State (2-5, 0-3) defeated Howard 24-7 Saturday, in a proper culmination of its Homecoming festivities.

Tigers quarterback Byron McNair completed 18 of 22 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns; McNair also recorded a team-high 47 yards rushing on 8 attempts.

Linebacker Micah Gay helped spearhead a defensive effort that limited the Howard offense to 7 points and just 183 yards of total offense. The redshirt junior recorded 11 tackles ( 4 solo, 7 assisted) and 2 interceptions, the latter of which effectively snuffed any hope of a Howard comeback. His infield exploits also earned Gay Big South-OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Tennessee State returns to action Saturday, when they host the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. Last season TSU defeated Western 45-20.
