The Tennessee State softball took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 2-1 victory against Lipscomb on Wednesday.
Reina Castillo (12-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Tennessee State (15-9). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven.
In the batter’s box, the Tigers were paced by Onnika Spencer, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Tennessee State plated two runs when Spencer left the yard with Jace Jackson aboard. Lipscomb put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Tigers still held on for the 2-1 win.
