It was a nearly wire-to-wire win for the Tennessee State Tigers, with Kentucky State leading for a mere 34 seconds, as the Tigers defeated the Thorobreds,83-58 Thursday evening.
A Brandon Hill’a jumper with 19:26 left in the first half gave the Thoroubreds a 2-1 lead, represented the last time on the evening they would be out front for the rest of the contest. Tennessee State recalimed the lead at 3-2 twenty-one seconds later on a Jason Jitaboh layup and the Tigers showed the way for the rest of half, building as much as a 14-point advantage, which they took into halftime at 40-26.
The Tigers shot 50%(17-34) from the field in the opening half, while the Thorobreds connected on just 29% (9-31) of their field goal attempts.
TSU poured it on in the second half, building as much as a 33 point lead in cruising to a 83-58 win. E.J. Bellinger led three Tigers in double figures with 20 points; Jason Jitoboh added 18 , while Jaylen Jones put in 13 points of how own. In a losing effort, Lavar Miller Jr led Kentucky State with 14 points, but shot just 5-16 from the floor. Brandon Hill added 13 and Ariel Blackwell chipped in 12 points.
Up next for the Tigers is a trip to the Pacific Northwest to fair Portland on November 15. Kentucky State will take on Delta State on November 12.
