Turnovers and hot three-point shooting downs Albany State 78-57 to GA Southwestern

The search for their first win of the season will continue, as the Albany State , bow 0-5, dropped their home opener 78-57 to the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern.

The first 8:41 seconds of the first half was a tight affair featuring four ties .Albany State got off to a much better shooting start than the previous evening against FAMU, connecting on four from downtown in that time span.

Phillip Burwell’s jumper put the Hurricanes up 17-15, that was as close as the Rams would ever be for the balance of the half, and game , for that matter, and Georgia Southwestern would take a 39-25 lead into the half. Both teams shot the the ball very well from downtown in the first half, with Albany State knocking down 5 of their 7 attempts.en route to shooting 11-21 from distance for the game. GS Southwestern only misfired on 1 of their 5 three-point attempts. The difference in the opening half was turnovers; the Hurricanes were able to turn the Rams over an astounding 15 times and were able to translate that into 30 points.

The Hurricanes did not let up in the second half forcing another ten turnovers, and were still locked in from three-point land, shooting 7/10 from downtown. Albany State was down by as many as 31 at two different points in the second half as the Hurricanes blew to a comfortable 78-57 win. Jordan Adderton led the way for the victors with 28 points on 11-14 FG and 5-7 from downtown; Devon Higgs added 18 points, only missing 1 of his 8 shot attempts. Travis Baker and Terin Wofford led the Golden Rams with 12 each off the Golden Rams bench. Reggie James added 10 points, and was the only ASU started in double figures.

Albany State, now 0-5 look to get of the schneid Saturday when they head to Mobile, Alabama to take on the Badgers of Spring Hill College’ Tip off time for that matchup is set for 5:00 pm.
