The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) was well represented on the international stage as men’s basketball head coach Kevin Sheppard and student-athlete Chad Molloy helped the U.S. Virgin Islands capture a silver medal at the 2026 International University Sports Federation (FISU) America Games.
The accomplishment marks a significant moment for UVI basketball, showcasing the program’s talent and leadership on an international stage. Sheppard served as part of the U.S. Virgin Islands coaching staff, while Molloy competed as a member of the team.
The U.S. Virgin Islands advanced to the championship game after defeating Argentina 63-61 in a thrilling semifinal matchup. Amayoa’ah Phillips led the way with 19 points, while Ajani Blyden and Kehjayah Rogers added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Molloy, a guard for UVI, has been an important contributor to the Buccaneers. During the 2024-25 season, he posted 13 points in an exhibition victory over Virgin Islands Elite, demonstrating his ability to make an impact offensively.
For Sheppard, the silver-medal finish adds another accomplishment to his growing résumé at UVI. He has led the Buccaneers while continuing to develop student-athletes both on and off the court.
The international success of Sheppard and Molloy highlights the talent coming out of UVI and provides another opportunity for the university’s basketball program to gain recognition beyond the Virgin Islands.
