Virginia Tech commit flips to Southern

Marshall Faulk and Southern University made another splash in recruiting when they flipped to Isaiah Pina from Virginia Tech. 

Pina , is rated a three-star prospect coming out of South Lake High School, where he recorded 32 receptions for 568 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also was a standout on the South Lake basketball team where the PF/C may have posted per game averages of 19.0 points and 10.7 rebounds 1.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks The 6-6 225-pound Pina had offers from UNLV, Southern Miss, Jackson State, Sacramento State, The Citadel, and Virginia Tech. 

Pina committed to Virginia Tech on 22 October 2025. However, he announced via another social media post on December 2 that he was not signing with Va. Tech the next day, which fell into the early signing period. However, he reiterated his commitment to the Hokies stating that he will move forward with signing in February. 

Pina began his high school career as a baseball player but soon turned his attention to basketball. After initially and persistently declining the overtures of football until the spring of 2024.

Speaking to Brian Dohn of 247Sports in September, Pina said of the game, “Football wasn’t my thing. I always liked watching it, but I was focusing on basketball. They came back to me and I said no, no, no until six months ago. I went out to a 7-on-7 game and I had 10 touchdowns in a 7-on-7.”
