Week 12 SIAC Basketball honourees

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.

For women, Dashanti Miller (Central State) was named Player of the Week, while Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim (Tuskegee) earned Newcomer of the Week.

For men, K.J. Doucet (Fort Valley State) was named Player of the Week, alongside, Myson Lowe (Fort Valley State) who earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK –  Dashanti Miller, Central State
Forward |  Sophomore  |  Sandusky, OH

Central State sophomore Dashanti Miller recorded a career-high in points (30) while recording back-to-back double doubles last week. In a 79-65 win over LeMoyne-Owen, Miller led all players with a career-high 30 points and 15 rebounds. In Saturday’s overtime loss at Kentucky State, she finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim, Tuskegee

Abdur-Rahim started the past week off with a big-time performance in a 76-51 win against LeMoyne-Owen (Feb. 6), where she finished with 22 points, including shooting 8-for-14 overall from the field, along with five rebounds, five steals, and a block in 31 minutes of play. In the second game of the week on Saturday (Feb. 11), the guard finished with five points yet still contributed on the other end with a pair of rebounds, two steals, an assist and block in 20 minutes of play.

Men’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – K.J. Doucet, Fort Valley State
Forward  |  Sophomore  |  Austell, GA

Doucet led FVSU to a 2-0 week with road wins over conference opponents Allen and Albany State. The sophomore forward averaged 19.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and a steal per game. Against Allen, he shot 5-of-10 and was perfect going 11-of-11 free throws for a total of 21 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Against Albany State, he was 6-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line for 17 points and added seven rebounds and an assist.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Myson Lowe, Fort Valley State
Guard  |  Sophomore  |  Atlanta, GA

Lowe helped the Wildcats to two road wins last week against conference opponents. Against Allen, Lowe made five of his six free throws leading the Wildcats to an overtime victory where he had 11 points, four rebounds and an assist. Against Albany State, he helped FVSU have a 7-point lead at half with 10 of his 14 points in the first half. He finished the game shooting 6-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 behind the three-point line to add to his three rebounds and a steal.
