ATLANTA, Ga. (January 21, 2020) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.
For women, Le’Andrea Gillis (Savannah State) was named Player of the Week, while Victoria Blankenship (Kentucky State) earned Newcomer of the Week.
For men, Chase Shellman (Spring Hill) was named Player of the Week, while Shaq Athie (Kentucky State) earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Women’s Basketball
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Le’Andrea Gillis, Savannah State
Guard | Sophomore | Adrian, Ga.
Le’Andrea Gillis, the top scorer in the SIAC, led the Lady Tigers to two victories this week over Morris College and Fort Valley State. She is averaging 21.6 points a game this season. She put up a combined 48 points in the two wins this week. In a conference win over Fort Valley State, she led the field with 27 points, shooting 43% from the floor and 62% from the 3-point line. She was perfect from the free-throw line in both games, hitting 4-of-4 attempts in each outing. She also averaged six rebounds per game.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Victoria Blankenship, Kentucky State
Forward | Senior | Fayetteville, N.C.
Blankenship scored 17 points, 12 in the second half, and pulled down 11 rebounds as Kentucky State snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 53-50 comeback victory over Lane.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chase Shellman, Spring Hill

Shellman was an offensive powerhouse for the Badgers as he scored 44 points with 20 rebounds in two games this week against Loyola (La.) and LeMoyne-Owen. The senior forward shot 58.8% (20-of-34) from the field while adding 12 assists, two steals, and a block.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Shaq Athie, Kentucky State
Guard | Sophomore | Cincinnati, Ohio
Athie tied a season-high with 14 rebounds, 11 defensive, to go along with 10 points as Kentucky State defeated Lane on Saturday.
