Why an ”irate”Mike Budenholzer took Bol Bol out of the Suns rotation

If you wondered what happened to Bol Bol during the later portion of the season, you certainly have company in that camp. The tantalizingly talented power forward/center has been racking up DNPCDs since March seemingly out of nowhere and without an explanation from the team.

On his Haynes Briefs show, NBA Insider Chris Haynes said that Bol Bol was taken out of the Suns rotation by then-head coach Michael Malone who was “irate” for his actions, or lack thereof during an altercation.

Haynes described what transpired:

He didn’t get into the rotation until February 7. He was in the rotation for about a month under coach Mike Budenholzer. His last day in the [Suns] rotation was March 12.

[In] the month of February [Bol Bol] was 12.5 points on 54% from the field, 38% from three, 4.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game.

The Suns were playing the Rockets, it’s when Stephen Adams and Mason Plumlee got into that altercation, a little scuffle on the ground. Players are running and starting to pull other players off. Bol Bol is in the background shooting layups. League sources told me that Coach Budenholzer was irate when he saw that. When he saw Bol did not run to the defense of his teammate.

Bol, after being in the rotation for over a month was out of the rotation for the remainder of the season. “

Bol Bol is still just 25 and according to Haynes, “rival executives believe has untapped talent.” He is a free agent and will hopefully land in a spot that will foster and facilitate the blossoming of that prodigious and latent talent.
