Since the news broke of their return several months ago, scores of sneaker enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the release.of the “Black Red” Air Jordan I High ‘85.
However, it seems Jordan Brand cannot stay out of their way, as they have made several inexplicable decisions that have torpedoed this release.
The first was limiting supply to just 10,000 pairs creating needless scarcity. It is another instance of Jordan Brand thumbing its nose at and kicking its consumers in the collective junk by essentially preemptively handling an L to 90% of parties interested in acquiring these sneakers.
However, Jordan Brand wasn’t done yet. They decided to further bottleneck the proceedings and place another obstacle in front of would-be buyers by only making them available at the following 20 retail establishments:
- All The Right
- A Ma Maniere
- Bait
- CNCPTS
- Grinmore
- Lapstone & Hammer
- Oness
- Premium Goods
- Shoe Palace
- Sneaker Politics
- Social Status
- Solely
- Sole Play ATL
- Success
- Trophy Room
- UNDFTD
- Up NYC
- Wish ATL
- Woodstack
- Xhibition
If one doesn’t live in the cities that any of these establishments occupy, the likelihood of acquiring these on release day is slim and none. Those who reside in those respective locales will still be hard-pressed to not come away empty-handed.
Finally there is the 250 USD sticker price, a $50 markup from every other rendition of the Air Jordan I High ‘85. Even with Jordan Brand upping the prices of their footwear on nearly an annual basis, $250 retail for a pair of the Air Jordan I is a big ask in an economy that is not in the best of shape and msy be a price threshold many are unable or unwilling to cross.
Congratulations Jordan Brand on another well-executed release.
The “Black/Red” Air Jordan I ‘85 High is slated to release February 14 and will carry a 250 USD sticker price.
