According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Willie Simmons and FIU have agreed to terms on a new contract.
The new deal includes a raise for Simmons, whose current four-year deal pays him $750,000 per year, upgrades to the assistant salary pool, and the school’s revenue-sharing commitment.
Coach Simmons just wrapped up his first season at FIU. He led the Panthers to a 7-5 overall mark and 5-3 within the confines of Conference USA play. Coach Simmons has never had a losing season as a head coach, posting winning marks in each of his three campaigns at the helm of Prairie View A&M (21-11 overall, 19-6 SWAC), and in each of his six years at FAMU (45-13 overall, 34-5 SWAC&MEAC)
The Panthers will end their season facing off against UTSA in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on December 26.
