The Washington Wizards have hired Antwan Jamison as their director of pro personnel, the announced Wednesday.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring Antawn back to the Wizards organization. In addition to his strong feel for the game and basketball knowledge, he has always been a true professional and a dedicated worker. We look forward to him bringing those qualities to our front office.”
– Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard
Jamison is no stranger to the franchise, having balled for the club from 2004-10, and in his time in the nation’s capital he averaged 20.8 points and 8.9 rebounds a night. Overall the two-time All-Star played 17 NBA campaigns for Golden State, Dallas, Washington, Cleveland and both the Lakers and Clippers and has career averages of 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
SInce hanging up his sneakers after the 2013-14 season, Jamison has sone some media work and spent the last two seasons as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers. He will work alongside Vice President of pro personnel, Johnny Rodgers, scouting for the NBA, D-League (G-League just sounds stupid) and international players.
Jamison joins a franchise has some work to do in order to get back to being a player in the East. The Wizards have a very expensive point guard who likely will not play next season, are basically capped out and are bereft of first round picks, barring a trade, until 2024.
