Two Memphis-area City Gear stores were recently hit with early morning robberies.
According to Memphis police, the City Gear in the 4000 black of Elvis Presley Boulevard was robbed early on the morning of Saturday, My 21. The interior of the store had been despoiled, the front door propped open with a pallet, with clothing and shoes stolen to the tune of $30,000.
Surveillance footage captured several of the suspects, including the face of this male.
Some of the stolen footwear included, the , at the tine, yet-to-be released, “Easter” Air Jordan 5 and the “Military Black” Air Jordan 4.
Just a few days later, on May 24, a second City Gear, this one located in the 2900 Lamar Avenue, was hit as well. The robbery occurred at approximately 4:40 am; responding officers reported to seeing 10-12 suspects leaving the scene in multiple vehicles- aa silver Infiniti, brown Dodge Charger and brown SUV.
In the second robbery the team of crooks used an axe and bolt cutters to break open the front door and cut the locks to gain access to the store. Once inside they stole several cases of shoes and clothing from racks.
At the time of the break-ins, Memphis Police had not indicated if they believed the two thefts were related.
