The Tennessee State volleyball team fell to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks in five sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 8-15) Saturday on the road at Houck Field House.
The loss dropped Tennessee State’s record to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in OVC play.
The Tigers offense was paced by Celestial Miller, who finished with 15 kills on the day. Johanna Alcantara added 14 and Kennedy Davischipped in with 12 as part of balanced Tennessee State attack. Defensively, TSU had three players reach double figures in digs, including Gina Rivera-Ortiz’s match high 33, 25 from Carla Boudal, and 13 more from Hadley Pride. From the front row, Gabrielle Johnsoncontributed six blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a hard-fought first set 25-23. Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 24-23 in a set that was tied up 12 times before the Redhawks took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Tennessee State evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 second-set win. The Lady Tigers took control of the set lead early on at 2-1 and never looked back. Tennessee State led by as many as eight points at 19-11 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills in the process.
SET 3 | Tennessee State went ahead 2-1 in the match after defeating the Redhawks in set three. A dominant defensive display from the front row helped the Lady Tigers to a 25-23 victory. Tennessee State recorded eight blocks in the set win. The Lady Tigers rallied from down five at 8-3 to grab the win.
SET 4 | Tennessee State couldn’t keep the win streak going, as the Redhawks forced a fifth set with a 25-17 fourth-set win. The Lady Tigers trailed by as many as eight points as Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 and Tennessee State wasn’t able to recover in a set that was tied up five times before the Redhawks took over.
SET 5 | Tennessee State took a lead of two sets to one before dropping the final two sets, including a 15-8 loss in the fifth set. The Lady Tigers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead.
Next up, the Tigers will be back home to take on Tennessee Tech on Septmber 29 and 30.
