The Miami Heat acquired guard Terry Rozier in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets per reporting from Shams Charania. The Heat sent veteran guard Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round pick.
Lowry, a six-time NBA All-Star, was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal with the Toronto Raptors in 2021. However since then it has become more evident that his best days are in the rear view mirror. In 37 appearance, including 35 starts this season Lowry is averaging 8.2 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contests on .426/.385/.833 shooting splits. Lowry’s recent removal from the starting lineup fueled speculation that his time in Miami could be coming to an end.
Rozier is having a career-best scoring season averaging 23.2 points per contest and is also averaging a carrier-hihg 6.6 assist per game. He can bring much needed offensive punch to a Heat team that is 26th in points (110.9 ppg) and offesnive rating (113.4). Rozier is shooting 35.8% from downtown and can be a threat from behind the arc, as the Heat average 12.4 made threes per game, which ranks 16th in the Association
Per Adrian Wojnarowski, at this juncture the Hornets have no plans to buy out Lowry and could seek to deal the verteran guard again in from of the approaching February 8 trade deadline.
