FAMU shuts down Bama State’s passing game in 28-13 win

Led by an impressive defensive showing that held the Alabama State offense to 68 passing yards, Florida A&M took down the Hornets 28-13 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Rattlers improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 2-3 and 1-1.

Daniel Richardson led Florida A&M’s passing attack with 196 yards through the air, tossing three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Levontai Summersett totaled 66 yards to lead the Rattlers’ ground attack in the game, picking up 5.1 yards per carry along the way. Thad Franklin Jr.also tacked on 26 yards on the ground, as well as 31 receiving yards.

A’ceon Cobb reeled in three catches for 49 yards and two scores.

T.J. Huggins showed out for the Florida A&M defense, collecting three tackles and one interception. Nay’Ron Jenkins added six tackles and one recovered fumble for a touchdown, and Deco Wilson had six tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one interception in the win.

The Rattlers forced three turnovers in Saturday’s contest, with Florida A&M turning those takeaways into 14 points. The Florida A&M offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 53.8 percent of third-down attempts.

Florida A&M’s defense held up against Alabama State’s offense, allowing 279 total yards. The Rattlers defense disrupted the Alabama State passing game on the way to recording two interceptions and breaking up three Hornets passes.How It Happened

Florida A&M scored first with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.Alabama State then tied things at 7-7 before the Rattlers responded with a 35-yard touchdown reception from to Cobb to retake the lead at 14-7.

Florida A&M continued to expand its lead after Alabama State made it a 14-10 game, scoring again with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter to go up 21-10. Alabama State added three points in the fourth, but the Rattlers scored a defensive touchdown to put the game out of reach.
