Norfolk State women’s track claims wins at Division I Pre-Nationals

The Norfolk State women’s track and field team picked up a pair of wins on day one of the Division I Pre-Nationals meet at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.

Junior Brooklyn Robinson picked up a win in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.38. She also placed third place in the 60 meters (7.63) and 18th in the long jump (16-6.25).

Sophomore Leanna Lewis won the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.81. Jahmei Wyatt followed in second place (2:11.72), while Emani Thompsonplaced fourth with a time of 2:17.33 in the same event.

Norfolk State also has three athletes sitting in the top four of the pentathlon after day one with Essence Shaw leading the way with 2,795 points. She is followed by Daena Dyer in third (2,777 points) and Lexa Hunter in fourth (2,567 points).

Freshman Kadynce Taylor led the way in the 400 meters, placing fourth with a time of 57.19. Autumn Burrell also placed in the top ten, earning eighth place in the same event (58.00).

Senior Allysia Farrar took sixth place in the 60 meters (7.67), while senior Mercyline Kimaiyorounded out day one of the running events with a fifth-place finish in the mile (5:06.48).

D’Nysha Brightful led the way in field events on day one, earning a 13th place finish in the pole vault (10-5.75). Senior Leslie Young also took a sixth-place finish in the weight throw (54-4.75).

Freshman Michelle Scott earned a top 15 finish in the long jump, placing 14th (16-10.75).

Norfolk State wraps up the Division I pre-national meet tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
