“Laney” Air Jordan 5 Expected to Return in May 2027

One of Jordan Brand’s most beloved non-OG colorways is reportedly making another comeback.

The **“Laney” Air Jordan 5 ** is currently expected to return on May 15, 2027, bringing back the royal blue and varsity maize color scheme inspired by Michael Jordan’s alma mater, Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.

According to early reports, the 2027 release will feature Jumpman branding on the heel, staying true to previous retail versions rather than the original Nike Air branding found on select retro releases. The sneaker is also expected to launch in full-family sizing, allowing men, grade school, preschool, and toddler sizes to release together.

Originally introduced in 2000, the “Laney” Air Jordan 5 quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its vibrant combination of Varsity Royal nubuck with Varsity Maize accents. The sneaker last returned in 2013, making the upcoming release the first retro in approximately 14 years.

At this juncture there are no available images, however predictive images depict a sneaker that carries the aesthetic of its progenitors. It should feature a white tumbled leather upper with clear netting on the tongue and sides. A maize and royal embroidered “23” is seen at the lower lateral heel, a maize Junpman perched atop the royal tongue.

Underneath the aforementioned upper should reside a royal midsole accented with maize “teeth, as well as a translucent and black rubber outsole.

If the reported details hold, the return of the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” should be one of the standout retro releases on Jordan Brand’s 2027 calendar, especially for longtime collectors who have been waiting more than a decade for another opportunity to add the classic colorway to their rotation.
